Subaru sales revved up in August
Philadelphia Business Journal - by Peter Van Allen Staff Writer
Subaru of America Inc., Cherry Hill, N.J., said August sales topped 17,156 cars, a 7 percent gain over the same month last year.
It was the second best August since 1987.
The Impreza line doubled sales, with the help of the turbo-charged WRX rally car, which sold 3,735 units.
"Despite an ongoing softness in the marketplace and a string of bad news from Wall Street, demand for Subaru all-wheel drive vehicles remains strong," said Fred Adcock, executive vice president.
Sales of Subaru Legacy, including the Outback, declined from a year earlier, with sales of 7,277 cars. Sales of the Forester also declined by 4 percent to 4,827 vehicles sold.
Year-to-date through Aug. 31, Subaru sold 122,212 units, a gain of 7 percent from the same eight months last year.
Subaru of America is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. of Japan. The company has 582 U.S. dealers.
The vehicles are manufactured at the Subaru-Isuzu Automotive Inc. manufacturing plant near Lafayette, Ind.
